Artist and Author Dennis Downes is building Studio North, AKA The Barbarian Shelter, in the Wilderness Coast region of Ontario, Canada.
Downes is building the log structure on an island. He is taking down the trees himself, removing the branches, peeling off the bark and then hauling them as far as a half a mile to the site.
Once on the site, he then notches the logs, setting them in place, chinking and cementing between the logs.
The artist has been accomplishing this in between research trips to upper and lower Michigan and Canada.
